I Need Help Identifying A Drink Recipe. I Think It’s For Homemade Kahlua?

January 30th, 2010 by Rexx

I’m trying to catalog all the recipes of my grandmother who recently passed away. The recipe is 5 cups water, 4 cups sugar, 1 vanilla bean, 1 cup instant coffee, 1 qt 80 proof vodka. Boil water and sugar, add coffee and cool. Add vodka and vanilla bean, pour into gallon jug and shake every day for 21 days, then bottle.
Is it Kahlua?

Yes, that is a recipe for homemade Kahlua. I pulled out my cookbook that has a recipe for that and it’s virtually identical. Make some up….I’ll be over! (I love homemade Kahlua!)

yes it sounds very familiar to the recipe my mother-in-law use to make except instead of instant coffee she used liquid “camp coffee” you find in the coffee section of the grocery store.
