Making Great Coffee For 12!?
October 12th, 2009 by Rexx
Hi there. I am having a party this Saturday, and I bought a Mr. Coffee 12 cup. I have NO idea how to use it, since I don’t drink coffee. I experimented this morning with a package I got from work. I made only 4 cups, and it tasted TERRIBLE! Help – what’s a guaranteed great 12 cups of coffee recipe!! I need direction……thanks!

All the other answers about qty of coffee to use per cup are correct as a general rule.
I would also recommend buying some good fresh coffee from your local Whole Foods. They usually have a good selection of relatively fresh roasted arabica coffee beans. If you don’t have a coffee grinder just use the one at Whole Foods. Store bought coffee such as Folgers mixes cheap robusta beans with arabica beans.

Fill the pot with water and add to the machine. In the basket, put a coffee filter (paper) or a paper towel that is white. Add 1/4 cup of coffee and let it brew. (Most coffee “scoops” are 1/8 cup and you use 2. If you have a coffee scoop, use 2.) Coffee cups are measured as 5 ounces of water per cup. You can weigh the coffee out, use 2 ounces. Hope this helps! Oh, take the basket away as soon as it is done dripping or the coffee will get bitter. When you are down to 1/2 a pot or less, turn off the hot plate. (You can reheat most coffee in the microwave, but it’s better fresh.)

1 tablespoon per 8 oz of water plus 1 for the machine. In other words use 13 tablespoons and a pot of water.
