Question About Making Coffee Flavoured Ice Cream?

October 21st, 2009 by Rexx

I’m going to make coffee ice cream. (yum) I have a grinder and an espresso machine, so I can make nice strong coffee. But the ice cream recipes I’m seeing all call for freeze dried coffee. Why is that? Can’t I just use ground or liquid espresso?
p.s. Yes, you’re invited over for some when I’m done! :-)

What i would do is brew some coffee, and strain it (to ensure there are no grounds in it) and add it to your cream base for the ice cream. Then, make your ice cream normally. There should be no reason why it won’t work.

I only ever use expresso coffee in anything that needs coffee. Do not buy or have in the house any other form of coffee.
there is no reason why you can not use it – it will have a much better flavour

As long as you strain the coffee well you should be fine.If not the grounds may spoil the ice cream .They are hedging their bets with freeze dried that is all.

Use freeze dried or instant. Otherwise your ice cream will be gritty. Yuck.
