How Do You Make Iced Coffee At Home?

September 1st, 2009 by Rexx

As I’m a regular coffee drinker and the temperature in Australia is shooting up, I want to stop drinking hot coffee and instead have iced coffee. The problem is I have no idea how to make it and I’d prefer not to buy one from a coffee shop. I have a espresso machine that textures milk and I would like to use it if possible.
If anyone has any recipes for home made iced coffee I’d love to know them, and please make the measurements in metric units if possible:)

Going to Buy Coffee Beans? Read This First!

June 30th, 2009 by Rexx

People who don’t know the many benefits of coffee beans often want to know why people buy coffee beans in the first place when you can purchase a jar of ordinary coffee. A can of decent coffee is just as good, they say. But is it really? The fact of the matter is that there are over twenty different types of coffee beans. However, they are primarily divided into two broad types. Regular coffee drinkers might already be familiar with the various types of coffee beans available and their various flavors. Coffea Arabica is the scientific name of a type of coffee bean that makes up between sixty to seventy percent of the world’s consumption. This is also the type that most people like out of the many other types. This type of coffee bean is also very expensive largely because of the strict growing conditions required to grow this type of coffee. These plants need high altitude to thrive and you should be at least around 3,000 feet above sea level. In addition the temperature should not exceed the low-70s degrees Fahrenheit range. The less popular type of coffee beans make up around thirty-forty percent of the world’s coffee consumption. Scientists call this type of coffee ‘Coffea Canephora’ and is commonly called Robusta. This type of coffee bean is considered inferior quality as compared to the much loved coffea Arabica and is hardly sold separately. This type of coffee bean can be grown at temperatures of around 85 degrees Fahrenheit and almost anywhere. However this type of coffee bean is a bit bitter and most people don’t like the bitter taste associated with this type of bean. Coffea canephora are often used as fillers for coffea Arabica beans, which because Arabica is expensive, are often mixed with these lesser quality coffee beans. So most of the time when you buy coffee beans it’s coffea Arabica mixed with Robusta in order to bring it within the reach of common people.Whether you prefer Arabica based coffees or go for the Robusta varieties, the freshest and best tasting cup of coffee will always be made from freshly ground coffee beans. You can certainly buy a large can of supermarket coffee that is already ground up, or you may actually buy coffee beans from the same supermarket and grind it right there using their coffee grinder. But within a week or so, your ground-up coffee beans are going start tasting stale. The best way to get a fresh cup of coffee is to purchase coffee beans in small quantities and grind them up at home as you go. Coffee grinders are available just about anywhere and they are for the most part inexpensive, so it is worth the money to be able to buy coffee beans and grind them yourself.

Are you ready to <a href=”http://gourmet-coffee-beans.net/buy-coffee-beans-best-deal-on-kona-coffee-beans.php” rel=”nofollow”>buy coffee beans?

If you <a href=”http://gourmet-coffee-beans.net/buy-coffee-beans-best-deal-on-kona-coffee-beans.php” rel=”nofollow”>buy coffee beans make sure you buy them in little amounts to ensure there freshness. Buying small quantities of coffee beans is a great way to be able to experiment with different gourmet flavors without getting stuck with a coffee you truly dislike.

Features to Look for When Shopping for a Coffee Maker

June 28th, 2009 by Rexx

There are so many different styles, brands, and prices for coffee makers. Don’t let the complex buttons and complicated gadgets fool you. When buying a coffee maker, it’s better to look for certain features such as easy controls, pod compatibility, thermal coffee pots, and a drip free spout.

Easy Controls

A good coffee maker comes with a programmable timer and an automatic shut off. First, a programmable timer will automatically start brewing at a designated time. There is no longer a need to start a coffee maker manually. When you wake up and start your day, you don’t have to worry about running to the coffee maker the first thing in the morning. Instead, you can leisurely take your time to get ready and have a hot coffee of coffee waiting for you before you head out the door. Secondly, the automatic shut off will stop brewing the coffee to prevent hot water from dripping into the pot (which makes coffee less flavorful) or on someone’s hand.

Pod Compatibility

One of the latest innovations in coffee makers are coffee pod inserts. Instead of measuring or spilling coffee, these coffee pods are made from compressed coffee bean, which makes a perfect cup of coffee minus the mess.

Thermal Coffee Pots

You want a coffee maker that comes with a thermal coffee pot, so your coffee will stay warm. A thermal coffee pot is specially designed to keep the hot air in and the cold air out.

Drip Free Spout

Another important feature you want in coffee pot that should be included in a coffee maker is a drip free spout. When you pour a cup of coffee with a drip free spout, it prevents the coffee from spilling onto people and other household objects. In other words, you can serve the coffee more easily because you don’t have to worry about scolding others.

Now, you know what to look for when purchasing a coffee maker. But, where do you find a coffee maker with all of these features. Illy USA has a coffee maker with easy controls (programmable timer and automatic shut off), pod compatibility, thermal coffee pots, and a drip free spout. In addition to the coffee maker, Illy USA has delicious dark and medium roast coffee for the coffee lover. You can also browse through Illy USA espresso machines, French press and moka pots, and coffee grinders.

Do You Know Any Good Coffee Recipes To Make At Home? Frozen, Iced, Or Hot?

June 19th, 2009 by Rexx

I make a pot of coffee, and after it cools, poor it into ice cube trays then freeze it. Then put the coffee ice cubes into the blender with some milk and hersheys dark chocolate milk mix (the syrup kind), and blend it all together. One tray of ice, one cup of milk and a half cup of syrup. Mmmmmmm!!!

How Can I Make Frappacinos At Home? Do You Have Any Easy Frozen Coffee Recipes? (preferably Mocha)?

June 15th, 2009 by Rexx

If you have a blender…
I brew up a pot of extra strong coffee or espresso.
Fill the blender 1/3 full of cooled coffee
Fill to 2/3 full with milk or chocolate milk
Add ice til it’s almost full (You can use part or all ice cream instead of ice to make it more like a shake)
Add about 1/2 cup of chocolate syrup (this can be good ol’ Hershey’s or you can melt a really nice chocolate)
Blend
You can change the proportions and the flavor variations are endless, white chocolate, caramel, anything that goes well with coffee, including liquors!

Coffee Recipes To Make At Home?

June 11th, 2009 by Rexx

I’m a huge coffee fan, but I want to expand my horizons beyond just cream and sugar in the morning. I love the “specialty” drinks that I can buy at my local coffee shop, but I don’t want to spend $5 for a cup or consume all the sugar.
Does anyone have any recipes that I can make at home that taste similar to what the coffee shop serves?
